The site was developed and is maintained by a husband and wife team; the husband was diagnosed with Polycythemia in March, 2003. The wife is experienced in scientific research and web development, and they both felt that providing a website devoted to the topic would help them organize the information they located as well as provide a "virtual support group" location to meet and discuss treatment and emotional issues related to the illness with others with the same ailment.
